Did you realize that Adelaide has eleven golf courses? Let’s get a bit of an overview than shall we? The Adelaide Shores Golf Park is where we shall start on our golfing review of Adelaide. The Adelaide Shores Golf Park is 135 hectares of metropolitan beachfront set aside exclusively for accommodation and sports & recreation. There are two public courses the Patawalonga and the Executive 60 course. The Executive 60 has been styled like an American executive short course of twelve par 3 holes and six par 4 holes. The Belair National Park Golf Course, is set in South Australia’s oldest National Park an is a fully irrigated 18 hole course. The National Park is an important habitat for native animals, birds and plants and it is a truly beautiful course. The Adelaide Golf Links is located in North Adelaide and is another popular public course. There are two fully watered courses that cater for all levels of golfers. The courses provide views of the city and of the Adelaide Hills.
The Blackwood Golf Club has a championship 18 hole course set out in a 40 hectare wildlife sanctuary. The course is set amongst native trees and bush land and has water features on six holes. The Flagstaff Hill Golf Club course is an undulating to hilly course, strategically bunkered, with water hazards, this beautiful course is for golfers of all levels. Now for the Glenelg Golf Club, located near the beachside suburb of Glenelg this course has been ranked 69th in the Australian top 100 courses in 2006, this can be a more challenging course. The Grange Golf club boasts twin championship sand belt courses that are consistently ranked in the top courses in Australia. The West Course was ranked at 18 and the East Course ranked number 55, these are challenging courses. When you talk rankings then please note that the Kooyonga Golf Club course was ranked number 11 in Australia in 2006, this is a championship golf course that has hosted Australian Opens, Australian Amateur Championships, South Australian Opens and Amateur Championships. This is a course that will require skill.
The Riverside Golf Club is situated on a sand belt, is mostly flat and well bunkered with narrow fairways and bent grass greens; an excellent clubhouse and staff make the Riverside course very enjoyable. The Royal Adelaide Golf Club is in the top 5 Australian courses and is South Australia’s oldest golf club. This is the most challenging course in Adelaide and has hosted many Australian Opens. The Tee Tree Gully Golf Club is located in the foothills on the eastern edge of Adelaide, recent modifications by golf architect Graeme Grant has made this course very challenging. Last but never least is the Vines Golf Club of Reynella, established in 1925 this is one of Adelaide’s older courses, and is suited to golfers of all levels.
